Saying that there’s never been a female Alan Moore or Grant Morrison pre-assumes that there could never be a female Moore or Morrison—which is the essence of the problem these people are talking about. The playing field hasn’t quite been level. I don’t really believe in a quota system, but neither do I believe that there’s any type of person who aren’t potentially capable of creating great comics.
To me the crux of the matter is that as long as comics are so closed to women or POC we the audience are deprived of so many potentially great creators who could bring their own vision to the field.
Imagine how many more A+ talent we could have if the medium was truly open to everybody, and not just the 36% of the US population who are white males.
