Thank you for taking time to answer all these questions. My question is this: Pros all now say the best way to break into comics is to get one published. As an editor would you look at someone for a job that has only done webcomics? Also would it be worth it to work up a sample comic to show your work, or would Marvel only be interested in people already published by other publishers?

Yes, I’d look at such a person—but those webcomics would need to be pretty good.

A sample isn’t going to do you much good at the major houses like Marvel, as we only work with established creators—you need some body of published work before you can step through our doors. But a sample may help you to find the breaks that will get you that body of work—so any effort spent making comics isn’t going to be a wasted one, if you truly apply yourself to it.
