But the short answer to your question is no.
Presumably, the editor in question hired that creator because they saw something of merit in their work. And that will either be borne out on the page, or it will not. But that’s the name of the game.
There’s no formula to this. It’s art, it’s alchemy, it’s not science. There aren’t specific levels that you need to go through. Talent trumps everything.
And the people in a position to make that decision are in that position to make those decisions. It’s their job. And if their judgment is wrong often enough, then eventually other people will be in those positions.
Frank Miller had done virtually nothing when he was given DAREDEVIL, first to draw and then to write as well. Sometimes these things work out pretty well.
